I’m not long back from just over a week in Martha’s Vineyard, attending a writer’s conference at the Martha’s Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing. As a recipient of a poet and author fellowship, I was honoured to be given this opportunity. I’ve been to a few retreats and writing events, but this was the largest, with sixty-nine other writers in attendance. There was a wide range of genres, from my own speculative fiction, to lit fic, memoir, poetry, and non-fiction. I learned a lot and attended some fascinating sessions. I made some great new friends.
I also got to catch up with Luke Tolvaj, and we spent some time around the island. We explored from one end to the other, checking out the Jaws filming spots, the beautiful scenery, and the town of Aquinnah of the Wampanoag Tribe.
I wrote a lot for both a new novel and a handful of short story ideas, so now I’m back, I’ll be head down finishing those off – along with my interactive fiction game that’s in the last stretch!
