Twenty-twenty-twenty four hours to go

So this year either flew by or dragged on for a millennia, maybe both at the same time. I’m not really one for New Years. I don’t make resolutions because I wouldn’t stick to them and then I’d be disappointed if I didn’t.

Still. Goals. I’m going to list some goals and by the end of the year, I’ll see how I’ve done.

Goddess of the North has a release date. August 4th 2020. A couple of weeks after Concentric in Birmingham. It’s been a long time from conception – a short story written for Connie Willis at Clarion West in 2012 – but it’s almost here.

Plus, this is just one step of many. My next novel is out on submission. I’m working on a space opera and a cli fi novel. I’m busy and it’s good!

I’ve also written some short stories due out this year. I’ll post more about them as they come out.

So – those goals.

Last year I challenged myself to read 50 books. I tracked 74.

I’ll try to hit that height again this year – I’ve set my goal to 75 books. I’m using the Book Riot tracker to try and gather a little more info as to what I’m reading.

It’ll be tough. I’m also going to try and read books I’ve had on my TBR pile for a long time. This will be harder since I do tend to see a shiny new book pop up and grab it to read. Let’s see.

I’m also going to try and mention the short stories that I’ve enjoyed. I never remember to track those, so I’ll try and tweet about them or mention them here. Here’s my favourite story for December 2019. (I do know Carlie, but this is still my favourite). You Were Once Wild Here.

I’m going to get better at tracking what I’m doing. Word counts don’t always work well for me. It’s good when it’s a first draft splurge, but if I’m editing that tends to be meaningless. Yet I do focus when I see I’m achieving my goals, so I’m trying a few different ways to track my work and hopefully one of them will work.

Consume more desi work – literature, film, TV. Blog about it on here and on Patreon. Actually start to use my Patreon.

Now I’m going to kick off my 2020 by watching Jojo Rabbit!
